# Capturing Screenshots

> Different ways to capture your screen

Screention makes it incredibly fast to capture what's on your screen.

## Global Hotkey

The fastest way to take a screenshot is using the global hotkey. This works from anywhere, even if Screention is minimized.

**Default Hotkey:**

| Platform | Key Combination |
| :------------------ | :------------------- |
| **Windows / Linux** | `Ctrl` + `Alt` + `A` |
| **macOS** | `⌘` + `⌥` + `A` |

Pressing this combination will immediately dim your screen and open the capture overlay. Click and drag to select the area you want to capture.

## System Tray

You can also trigger a capture from the system tray:

1. Locate the **Screention icon** in your system tray (menu bar on Mac).
2. **Click** the icon once.
3. The capture overlay will appear immediately.

Alternatively, you can right-click the tray icon and select **Take a Screenshot**.

## Main Window

If you have the main gallery window open:

1. Click the **"New Capture"** button in the sidebar.
2. The window will minimize, and the capture overlay will appear.
